Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to
the muscles, fascia and tendons.
Sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare
their bodies for optimal performance, to recover after a big event,
or to function well during training. But you don’t have to be in the
Olympics to benefit from sports massage. It is good for the amateur
athlete and weekend warrior who is trying to get in shape. Pain and
injury can be caused from lack of flexibility, sports technique
and/or body mechanics, over training, unrecognized de-hydration,
tight muscle/fascia, etc.
Sports Massage is a good choice if you have a specific problem:
for instance, a tender knee or pulled hamstring from running. The
specific area, along with the compensating areas of the body will be
treated with massage techniques and range of motion exercises to
help decrease pain and inflammation. Your movement pattern will be
observed to identify what might be causing your injury.
